Vancouver or Montreal

I lived in Montreal for maybe three months in the early eighties and had a ball. I didn't speak French so I ended up with really bad jobs like working in a bleach and soap factory for minimum wage. I learned something cool though....We used to work at the end of the packaging line putting the brand name bleach/soap containers into cases as they came off the line all brand name stuff. Then the production line would halt and our brand name packaging would be whisked away and replaced by generic, no name packaging and the labels on the product we now packed would reflect the same no name labeling. The product in the bottles was exactly the same though. The point being, I learned to save a few bucks when shopping because the products are just brand name stuff with no name labels:) Here all the time I thought it came from some third rate schlep factory!!! Yeh...Montreal kicked my ass over the no French thing. Vancouver is my home and has been now for ten years, I love it. My second best city in Canada is Toronto where I spent about fifteen years and I still get the urge to return. I know jack about jobs in film here as I'm a free lance A/V tech. I have a spacious two bedroom for 900 per month, my room is 11x16 and I think the whole place clocks in at 1000 sq ft. This is in New Westminster which is about a half hour commute to down town. The city is roughly 43% Asian which seems to get some folks knickers in a knot so If you don't like the Asian community, this is not a place you're going to be happy with. Rain, rain, rain and more rain in the winter months but summer can be simply unbeatable!!! Lot's of skiing and snowboarding in winter. Crime is fairly high ie B&E's and car theft but if you take protective measures you can get around most of that and it seems to depend on the neighborhood in which you live. You want to live near the beach...It'll cost ya. If your OK commuting from the suburbs you can get reasonable deals. I rent my DVX and me out for 350 to 450 a day for live eye depending on the breaks and size of venue and pull 25 an hour for free lance A/V gigs. I'm growing my own business which pulled 15 thousand last year, that along with a very busy Freelance life and I get by. I could go on and on but coupled with the other replies I think you get the drift...
