Van den Bergh Boom Poles

While I have not personally used one, I've read much on them. The general consensus is they're pretty good, lightweight and sturdy, but seem to have lots of carbon dust problems gunking up the locking mechanisms.

(I'm sure now that I've posted this, hundreds will chime in and say they have been using the same pole for 20 years and never once even had to clean it...I'm just reporting anectodal feedback).

They are pricey. There are less expensive options that are well thought of (especially from K-Tek, and Manfred is a mensch!).

What Phil said.

I used one booming for a mixer ohhh so many years ago. They are fine but I prefer Ktek. In particular I like the Ktek knuckles. I found the VDB pole difficult to keep keep tighten properly. If you can compare test them yourself you will probably like one a little bit more but if you can't either will keep you happy.

Hope that helps

Yes, that helps. Thanks a lot, Phil and Wabbit! Problem is: I looked for K-Tek, because I saw them mentioned in many threads on this forum. But it seems you just can't get them here in Germany.

Ahhhh. Well, VDB are fine then. I have never used Ambient poles but understand they are quite good too. Pretty sure you can find them in Germany :)

(they are based in your home country)

Cheers

Panamic is also considered to be good, especially their really long poles.

You might email or call K-Tek, they may be able to arrange something for you. As I said, they are a great company to work with.

Thanks a lot for all your replies!

Ambient has a nice and sturdy 12' pole (QP480) that I'll take a look at. Price tag is 350 Euros + VAT.

Stay away from VDB. They have been having distribution problems and QC issues for years, and they can't seem to get their **** together. I would go with either a KTek or Ambient pole.
