Value of duclos modded lenses

Hey All,

So, I've got a set of Zeiss c/y lenses; 25/2.8, 28/2.8, 35/2.8, 50/1.4, 85/1.4 & 135/2.8,

I know right now I could sell them one at a time for at least $2000 or as much as almost 3k (I paid $1700 for all them). I've been thinking of getting them modded by duclos, but I'm not sure I want to keep them forever, and with the conversion costing around $1500, I'm just wondering if that would increase the value by that much, and weather or not it would be easier to sell them modded or unmodded when i'm ready to upgrade to faster glass.

Thoughts?

Once you do the mod they are more of a specialty item, so while the mod will up the value it will be harder for you to find someone to actually pay full price for that.

you're forgetting about shipping, insurance, and taxes as well, so more like $2K. you're also stuck in c/y mount which has even a more limited audience. why not sell and upgrade now to something like a three set 35/50/85 thats already cinemod or just pl glass + adapter (i dont know what camera you're using this on).

right now i use them on a few different rigs, a 5d, an ex1 with letus adapter, and eventually either the af100 or the new sony, I haven't decided which one I will get yet. I got the c/y lenses since they were SO much cheaper than the Nikon zeiss glass, and since i dont shoot with any nikon gear anyway, it doesnt really matter what mount I have as long as i can use adapters to put them on all my various camera packages.

personally, i love the cinemodded lenses, but if it's going to make it difficult to sell and upgrade i'll probably just keep them unmodded for now.

Zeiss c/y in that range aren't even selling for 600-800 each on ebay... Let alone 2000+...

Just trying to help you keep perspective on this..

i mean 2000 if i sold them piece by piece, and they definitely are, that 85 1.4 goes for 8 to 900 bucks alone, not to mention the 25, which is usually around 400-500. the other lenses all regularly go for 3-400. Seems like they are mostly bought by still guys though, which is why i think ill keep them unmodded, to keep the resale value.
