Vacation-ing in Los Angeles

So im heading to LAX in a couple of days. Heading out from Vancouver.

Since LA has a lot of studios, I want to hit up a few tours or interesting things that are filmmaker/enthusiast friendly to learn a few cool things along the way, maybe on my own.

I know im defintely taking the Warner Bros. VIP tour since it looks like a great starting place. We're going to Universal as well, but i've heard the backlot tour is not as great.

Anything else you guys recommend anything that would be interesting to filmmakers in that area? I have about 2 daysish before i head out to Vegas from there.

There are services that list the day's location shoots, based on permit data
There's a website that lists famous movie locations on a map

I have have the same question as I may be heading to LA in early Fall. Is Panavision in Woodland Hills open to visits to just gawk? ... And who do I call to let the ASC Clubhouse know I am coming and let them know to leave a light on!!!

I'm also going this summer, but my question is not what to see but where to sleep for 11 days with my sister (aside those 11 days we are spending another 5 days in anaheim. For Vidcon and disney...). we are renting a car to move around LA...anyway... if anyone has a good suggestion (our budget is around 70-120$ per night...) I would welcome it... We will be moving all around some days in hollywood/burbank, another day or so in SM. One day visiting a friend in Pasadena..etc... We can move around by car...This is my second time over there...but the first time I was staying in a family in Culver city and then moving around in public transport and walking 20+kms from Santa monica to hollywood, westwood to culver city (i love walking, but my sister doesn't, so is car time this year....)
