UV filter

Re: UV filter

Yes you should have one. It's a lot cheaper to replace than a lens if it gets scratched. A good one will not affect your image.

Re: UV filter

to add to this, should i get a screw on polarizer (already got the uv), or get one with a mattebox?

Re: UV filter

really don't need the mattebox unless you're planning on using lots of different types of filters.

Re: UV filter

To Boomerang

Most definatley get one. A reccomended one is HMC UV (I have the sky version). Check www.2filter.com

To Carlos

If you can get a Mattebox you will be so stoked. I can never go back now that I use one. Amazing little accessory. (ND GRADS are epic, rotating poloraizers, soft fx, etc) Do it!

Re: UV filter

Polarizers should be used on a mattebox, on a rotating filter tray.

Re: UV filter

Hudson, which Grad ND do you use? You always speak so highly of it.

Re: UV filter

Oh dude...

My filters are freakin cheap. They are glass, but still. Not the highest caliber. They are of the brand that cavision seels that are NOT Formatt. BUt, they work for now.

I just couldnt fathom spending the duckets on the Tiffen or Schnieders. :P

Re: UV filter

Between the two, I'd choose Schneider.

I want *every* filter in front of my lens to have a quality multi-coating. I don't believe Tiffen offers this.

Re: UV filter

Can you have a UV filter on and the sun shade box that comes with the camera? Also before I add the filter any tips on a wiping the lense.

Thank you

Re: UV filter

The one nice thing about an uncoated UV filter on a lens is that you can pretty much feel free to clean it with whatever lens fluid you want.

Re: UV filter

True. I have an uncoated Tiffen for 'down and dirty' shoots and a quality B+W multicoated one for cleaner environs.

Yes you can have both on, it is a screw on filter, so it will be fine. Get some lens paper and GENTLY wipe.
