UV and Polarizer

Can anyone steer me in the right direction for a UV and Polarizer for our dear camera? Links would be marvelous. I expected to buy from B&H and I honestly have no idea how to find the right filter in that mess.
I was recommended a B+W UV multicoated for a bit over $50 and a good polarizer for about $80.
And more recommendations?

Re: UV and Polarizer

Has anyone heard of or have had any experience with Pearl filters?

Re: UV and Polarizer

If you look down a couple of topics, you'll find my discussion on B+W filters. They come highly recommended.

Re: UV and Polarizer

b+w is my recommendation as well, although the tiffen polarizers are pretty decent.

Re: UV and Polarizer

What about Hoya filters? also.. the difference in quality between the different brands of polarizer is mainly what? just lens flares right?

Re: UV and Polarizer

Ok, we got the UV in the bag, now I'm getting B+W for the polarizer too? Do I need multicoated?

Re: UV and Polarizer

Multicoated is best... and Hoya I would say is one step above B+W... Although I have used Tiffen polarizers as well with very good results. Make sure you dont get a linear one and you will be fine.

Re: UV and Polarizer

B+W, Heliopan, and Schneider are all top manufacturers. Hoya is decent and cost-effective, and I have some Hoya filters, but I don't think they're in quite the same league as the best German glass.

Then again, we're talking about a standard-def camcorder: as long as you're getting at least Hoya or Tiffen, in the super-multicoated version, you'll be fine.

Re: UV and Polarizer

Hoya filters are almost identical to than Schneider (b+w).. The coatings are applied the same, the only difference is they each use their own glass... and Hoya has come along way over the years. As you said, on SD, you wont tell a difference.
