Hey guys. Ok, so I am at the backside of setting up a studio. I have the camera (dvx100b) and new computer with vegas 7. Now... I am thinking of purchasing a program to use for superior slow motion effects. I have been relentlessly searching but have not found any definite definitions. I am not sure what the differences between AE, Retimer, Fusion, and the likes are. I heard AE has a similar 'draw between frames' and Retimer... is it comparable? And what about Fusion.... or anything else that may be superior? Why would I not get AE compared to Retimer if AE does the same slow motion effect? Arg... I need some direction here. Thanks-

T

You're comparing apples to oranges. AE and Fusion are compositing apps. Retimer is a plug-in meant to work within a compositing app.

If you're setting up a studio then AE would certainly be a useful tool to have at hand. Regarding the slo mo stuff, the off the shelf version of AE won't do the 'tweening' that you're looking for. However, a few AE plug-ins will get you closer to that goal: Realviz Retimer and Revision FX Twixtor. Also, keep in mind that anytime you see super crisp slow motion the footage was probably shot with a film camera overcranked (high frame rate). You shouldn't expect the same results from using a plug-in with 30fps material.

the new AE does have a time remapping feature in it, although ive never actually used it yet. im not sure if its only in pro version, but its there. i cant imagine that it would be as good as Retimer or twixtor, but i would assume it could do some halfway decent slowmo. especially when combined with motion blur and frame blending ect. i just thought it was worth mentioning that if your going to purchase AE i would check out the feature and see where you want to go from there.
