using zoom lenses with the letus extreme

okay, my lack of still photography background is probably coming into play here

but anyway, for the letus extreme on an xha1, i have the following 2 nikon zoom lenses:

70-210 mm and 43-86 mm

anyway, i am able to get them mounted on the letus extreme, but when i manually extend the zoom all the way, the change in frame is so small that it looks more like lens breathing

i would really expect a significant change from 70 to 210...

am i missing a step on the camcorder end or something?

sorry if these are dumb questions for people with a lot of camera experience but i'm doing my best to learn this stuff quickly
 
That makes no sense to me. Are you sure you are extending the zoom on the lens properly and not just turning a focus ring?
Is the 70- 210 the 2.8 version?
