Using velocity envelope to reverse video

Hi,I'm using Vegas4.0 and am having a problem reversing a trimed clip on the time line,the clip is about a minute long,but I only need to use about 5 to 10 seconds out of the middle,when I drag it up on the time line the trimmed clip is exactly what I want,but when I through the velocity envelope on it and pull it down to about a -4 or more it does it's job but it also seems to add more fotage to the front and cut off the end. Is this because the velocity filter is affecting the whole clip and not just the trimmed section? I've also tried right clicking on just the clipped section in the trimmer to add the velocity envelope to the trim section but it will not allow me to add that in the trimmed section. Any help on this would be great and might keep me from throwing my computer out the window! Thanks.
 
You have to further trim down the clip once you have the desired effect. Apply the V Env. and then trim once again once the effect is in place; it is affecting the entire event; just as you can drag out the SPLIT cut and see the footage you just chopped.
