using vegas6 external monitor preview

Ive been using a jvc H150C to view footage and hooked it up to my PC via firewire and a minidv. Ive been using Vegas 6 to edit with the external monitor to preview, but when I click out of Vegas, to a webpage for example, the monitor turns blue then black with low clicking noises and when I return to Vegas it turns back to blue then to my video preview, is this okay? Also when I render my NTSC monitor turns black and the preview plays inside vegas....?

last thing im unclear about, im using footage shot with the century WA lens and I have my project set to widescreen, and the pixel AR set to widescreen for the captured footage, how can I go about getting the preview inside vegas6 to show my footage in 16:9? Ive set it to use AR of the clips but it seems like it magnifies the footage, I can only get the 16:9 on my external monitor.

thanks

The blue with the clicks doesn't happen with me.

During render, the image on the external monitor is the frame which the cursor happens to be resting on.

The WA adapter isn't a 16:9 adapter. But make sure your preview is set to "auto" instead of "full," and then right-click on the preview window and choose "simulate device aspect ratio."

Hey thanks for the info man, can you explain the difference between a 16:9 adapter and a wide angle adapter from century?

also are you saying that if you minimized Vegas the frame of footage will stay on your preview monitor?

If I minimize Vegas, the preview disappears from the external. But there are no clicks. The firewire feed is just cut.

A 16:9 adapter gives you a squeezed 16:9 image in your 4:3 frame, which you then stretch out in post for a widescreen image.

A wide-angle adapter gives you a wider angle, but it's still (mostly) 4:3. (There's a little distortion, usually.) Stretching out to 1.2121 will probably not be proportionally correct.

So the .7x WA adapter from century for the DVX doesnt squeeze 16:9 footage to the 4:3 CCD's? Im confused on the aspect ratio you would have if you shot with the .7x, thanks for the info man
