Using the Zoom H5 as preamp into my DSLR

Hi guys,

I have a Panasonic GH3 and want to run my mic into it using the Zoom H5 output. Monitoring will be done through the camera headphone jack. The H5 can lower the "line out" output down to -30dB according to the manual. So as far as I know, I'm all set - I should be able to use a simple male to male 3.5mm jack cable.

But there is a product called Sescom 3.5 mm Line to Mic -25 dB Audio Cable for Zoom H6

Why would that still be needed? The Zoom H6 can lower the output just the same.. Do I still need that cable, and if yes, why?

Thanks,
Raphael

If the H5 line out could be lowered to -30dB, so you probably wouldn't need the Sescom adapter cable if the camera has a HP out.
I wouldn't expect much out of a DSLR, regardless of the front-end. Depends on your expectations.
