using the white lens cap as an alignment tool

I am using the white lens cap of the Pana anamorphic adapter to get the lens properly aligned.

I can see the impressed rectangle on the lens cap on the lcd panel but it doesn't appear in the centre of the lcd panel.
The rectangle is parallel to the lcd frame but the up side of the rectangle merges in the up side of the lcd frame.

Is this normal? Do I have to rotate more the lens? To rotate it less? Or is there a problem whith the adapter?

I hope that somebody will be able to help me.
Thanks.

Hi Rico,
As long as your lines of the rectangle are parallel to the lcd frame I believe your ok. I not sure why it doesn't appear in the centre of the lcd panel. Make sure your in manual zoom and zoomed all the way back (4.5)

Hi Student,

Thanks to have reply to my post.
Do you own the anamorphic adapter? Does the rectangle appear in the centre of the lcd panel when you use the white cap?
I really would like to know if it's normal or if there is a problem with my adapter. Maybe I am just not using it correctly? But if there is a problem with my adapter I will have to send it back rapidly.

Thanks again Student.

It should be fairly close to the center. I have a modified lens for the 4x4 Chrosziel matte box so I can't see the rectangle at all. Before you send it back - Check to see if the rectangle is indeed in the center of the lens cap. Mine is 25mm from all the edges. And do some test shots and see if the image is ok.

Re: using the white lens cap as an alignment tool

Mine is not absolutely in the center, I think it's a little higher up than dead-center, although on the horizontal axis it's centered.

Re: using the white lens cap as an alignment tool

Hi Barry,

Mine is also centered on the horizontal axis but completely not on the vertical axis.
I can barely see the up side of the rectangle in the lcd panel.
I have read to never overtighten the lens and to only make it snug but I wonder if I have to rotate it more.
I had some dust inside the lens and had to clean it. Maybe when I have untighten the screws in the back of the lens I have moved something inside? Do you think the problem might be explained by some moving of an inside component?

Thanks again to both of you.

Hmmm. No idea, never opened one up. How far off-center is it? If when you're fully zoomed out, you can see the whole rectangle on the screen, then I probably wouldn't even worry about it.

Re: using the white lens cap as an alignment tool

I have just checked another time. I only have something like 1mm between the up side of the rectangle and the up side of the lcd frame, 6mm down, 5mm on the left side and 6mm on the right side.

Re: using the white lens cap as an alignment tool

Rico,
Look at the impressed rectangle on the lens cap. That should be centered in the plastic lens cap. If it's not then it will for sure not be centered in the LCD screen. On my lens cap the impressed rectangle is dead centered with each of it's sides 25mm from each of the caps outside edges.
