Using the Firestore Hard Drive

In the next year I am planning on buying a HVX. Can the camera record to the firestore drive without the P2 cards? If this is the case, then I may buy the hard drive instead of the P2.
 
Yes it connects to the Firewire output, it's not out yet. It was supposed to be released last week but now Panasonic are telling my dealer that it's out sometime this week.
 
once your clips are captured to the firestore will you have the ability to play them back in the camera, and out to say a dvd or vhs for logging?
 
My question revolves around mainly price. To buy 2 P2 cards is over $1000, so teh firestore isn't so much more than that...Afterwards I would dump the clips to another hard drive to edit in Final Cut Pro. Does this work, or is a P2 card also needed.

I am asking this because in the HD100U, I read that the tape needs to be played while the hard drive is hooked up. Not sure if it is true though.

My understanding is you cannot record 'native' with the FS-100. Can somebody confirm or correct me?
