Using TEXT option in FCP

Everytime I use TEXT in FCP it puts everything in the middle of the screen and down. The whole top 1/2 of the screen is not used. Why is that? How can I have my text at the top of the screen within the title safe area?

Put it there. Double click on it, go to the MOTION tab and change the Center. Move it up.

You can also position it in the Controls tab, the Text generator has a positioning control.

Or, turn on Wireframe + Image in the Canvas and just move it to where you want it with your mouse.

You'll also find that different fonts behave differently. Some sit higher, some sit lower. It has to do with the built in leading and stuff imbedded in the font itself.

Personally I find the FCP text tool limited and best for very quick simple titles or ever temporary placeholders for more advanced titles. Motion is much better at this sorta stuff.
