Anyone ever use still photographs(or photoshopped images) to suggest an empty room or city street? I figured that since I have to radically alter the image to make buildings looked ruined I might as well use still shots for the whole thing instead of shooting live footage.
The key is to get some movement in it... either camera or to have an element
that is still alive. This could be moving clouds, shadows, leaves or dust blowing, etc.
You're also going to want to add some animated grain or 'noise' as stills and
digital are very 'clean' and static.
In addition to Greg's advice, you can cut up a still into different pieces and then stage then move them on the z-axis to get the proper scale, then animate a simple camera move that add that little bit of movement. This keeps the parallax illusion in tact. Also, a little wind effects, and animated atmosphere go a long way.
Oh that's neat. Yeah i was figuring to do some fiddly stuff with it like with paper blowing across the street. I was also thinking of some sort of subtle heat blur (a couple of shots have the sun in prominent view).
Nice thing about using stills is you can use photoshop to repaint parts of the picture. A normal house can be made to look decrepit for a horror movie.
