Using squeeze mode, will I loose generation?

I went to a rental house to check out the 35 mm adapter to use with the DVX. I happened to mention that I wanted to use the squeeze mode to achieve a 16x9 aspect ratio, at that point someone told me that when using the squeeze mode there is a slight lost of generation. Is this true?

You don't lose a generation, but you do lose a little bit of quality because you're taking a 720x360 area and stretching it out to 720x480. That would be so with or without the mini-35.

Right. A "generation loss" is a term that refers to either copying a tape from one deck to another (in analog days this would cause a loss of quality), or in DV it implies uncompressing and then recompressing the footage (which can cause a small loss of quality).

Squeeze mode isn't doing anything that intrinsically involves a generation loss, unless you plan on unsqueezing it to be letterboxed or something like that.
