Using Sennheiser MKE 400 on a Boom pole?

Hi,

Anyone here tried recording an interview indoors using the MKE 400 with extension cord on a boom pole or
attached to grip arm+C-stand to record audio to a Zoom recorder? Should I have it pointing down at a 45 degree angle
to subjects mouth?

I am just starting out on audio recording for video and want to use what I have while I save up for dedicated
devices for interviews.

Also, can you recommend a good mic for recording interviews with the mic on a extension arm over the subject?

I currently have two Audio-Technica ATR-3350 Lavalier Omnidirectional Condenser Microphones. One I attach to the
mic in jack on the XYH-5 X/Y microphone capsule but the other is causing static/noise when attached to Zoom recorder
with a 3.5mm to XLR adapter.

Thanks.

Thanks, David. I am looking for something in the $100-300 range for web video and don't do too many interviews so the MKH series is out of my
budget. I mainly shoot still photos of news events and lit location portraits but need to increase my skills when it comes to video production on location.

For interiors, a hyper cardioid is usually the go-to favorite. Exteriors: a short shotgun. One of the few mics that excel in both environments is the Sanken CS-3, but it's over $1k. This has been discussed in depth.. search here and elsewhere for choices in your price range.
BTW, for an exterior mic, a proper wind suppression system should be factored in to your budget as well. A slip-on 'Softie' type would be the absolute minimum IMO.
