Using Premiere Cs4 to digitize footage for FCP?

Hi Guys,

I have a client who uses Final Cut Pro but we use Premiere Cs4.

We need to digitize about 4 hours of HDV 1080i footage for them and put it to hard drive so they can then import the footage to Final Cut Pro and start editing.

What would be the best work flow for this? Obviously the best solution would be for them to use our HDV deck and digitize directly to their Final Cut Pro suite but it's not an option at this stage which means we need to do the digitizing for them.

Our end result would be: 4 hours of uncompressed HDV 1080i footage on a hard drive (digitized using Premiere Pro CS4), ready for Final Cup Pro to import easily and begin editing.

Any advice on this would be very much appreciated. :)

ideally, the deck would be attached to the FCP machine for a prores acqusition. Is your CS4 machine pc or mac?

Not a good idea to use Premiere as FCP tends to be very picky about what wrapper it accepts. I don't know what CS4 does on a Mac but on a PC it will just capture HDV as .mpg which FCP will not be able to import. The best way to do it is just to find someone with FCP and capture from there.

Thanks for the feedback, guys.

Yeah, it's less than ideal and it's the first situation we've been in where we need to capture on on system for editing on another.

I'm thinking digitizing in MPEG and re-exporting in .MOV for Final Cut will be a huge waste of time too.
