Using On-board monitor for "final look" and shooting flat "in camera"?

Messing with my monitor settings and happened to amp up the blue a little too much. Then I realized... I could use the monitor as a reference to the final look or something close but still shoot flat using the HVX LCD. That way I could do it all in post and still have the options to work with.

Does that make any sense to anyone else? Anyone tried this before?

Great Idea

Great Idea

That's a great idea, and actually you'll probably see more of that in the future. I read an article a few months ago from some British mag called Studio I believe. It talks about how the silicon imaging camera system http://www.siliconimaging.com/DigitalCinema/products.html#software allows you to use their monitoring software on set and the DP and colorist can add their settings to the raw image to see what they will get.

The camera records the raw flat image or data, and the colorings and settings are saved to a file they can apply to the footage at any time in post, or choose to record it that way on the fly.

Iridas teamed up with their software to offer a complete package. Check out those companies. I wouldn't be surprised if programs like onlocation cs3 or hdmonitor pro in the future add some of these futures.
