Using my DVX100 as capture deck....?

I know, I know...Shame on me. Don't have money for a upload and playback deck.

Anyone know of any good ones?

Also, my main question - Is the Final Cut Pro 4 Program compatible with DVX100 as far as capturing? Not sure if that's why it's giving me an error and not able to capture or show any images in the capture deck on FCP.

you dont need to spend alot on a deck just buy a cheap sub 200$ camera and use to playback and capture with or check your craigslist and by one for even cheaper
bestbuy/futureshop open box items are great too ;)

fcp's compatibility with the dvx should work fine, but you will need to give more information for someone to answer the question ie. what error are you getting from fcp when trying to capture? is it a timecode issue?
if its a time code issue, just capture with imovie, it will be the same quality no matter where you capture from just different file type
then import the files captured to fcp after

I Have a DVX100B and it works fine with FCP 4 and 5. I did have a serious capture issue with FCE 2 (I didn't shoot at 24P or PA) but that's another story. The User Preference window gives you options on how to deal with TC issues and dropped frames. FCE doesn't have all this control so maybe that was my problem.
I have used the "capture to iMovie and export to FC" trick but I wonder if there's a better way than what I do. I export as a QT file and import into FC. It works but the audio has to be rendered which is time consuming. It has to be re-rendered every time I screw around with the audio. It's not nearly as efficient as capturing raw footage directly into FC. Is there a better way?

You don't need to worry about using a "capture deck", your DVX is a professional unit and its heads will last for 1,000 hours of use. If you're doing an incredibly high workload, you might want to use a different dedicated deck, but for light capture duty the DVX will work just fine.

Barry's the man and I agree 110% that the DVX100B is a well made, professional camera. Maybe that's the point. It's my new baby. I handle it more carefully than my two year old daughter, LOL. I only bring her, umm... it, out of the hard case for paying jobs or to practice what I learn in Barry's little black book.
