Using MPEG-2 in 1080p24 video

I've been given a lot of footage that is in MPEG-2 format. A CinemaTools analysis shows me that it is XDCAM EX footage, 1080i60 @ 29.97fps.

The project I'm working on is in 1080p24 (23.976fps), and all the footage is shot accordingly (GH2). I'd had a hard time getting this footage to work; deinterlacing in FCP does nothing; CinemaTools won't let me reverse telecine or anything, really. When I try to transcode it to ProRes in 5DtoRGB it gets rid of the frame blending, but the interlacing artifacts remain, and the clip's duration is cut in half.

Is there a way around this, or am I going to have to ask them to resend it in a sensible format? (I already waited a month for this footage...)

I take it this is to add into a project in which you've already done a lot of work in 23.976? Removing pulldown is the only way to make it work properly. Deinterlacing, resampling, "interpreting," or anything else will only make a mess of the footage (as you've seen).

If Cinema Tools won't let you do a proper reverse telecine, then try After Effects. If you simply can't remove pulldown, then you'll need them to give it to you as 23.976.

Yes, 80% of the project is finished; it's all in 23.976.

I must admit I'm not well versed in AE. Is there a way to do batch conversion? I have a lot of clips...

Neither of those methods did the trick, unfortunately. The outcome was no different from the original file.

I tried a simple de-interlace using JES, which fixed everything EXCEPT now there's an obnoxious flicker to the shot.

If you try to simply deinterlace 24p footage in a 60i stream, you end up with 30p containing messed up frames. You get a flicker when you try to convert straight 24p to 30p, but to do it from a stream with 2:3 pulldown inserted is only going to make it worse.

You need to remove pulldown properly. Nothing else will do. Anything else will give you problems, as you've found. As I said, if you can't, you need them to supply you with true 23.976.
