Using Limiter filter (FCPX)

Hi

How can I limit audio to -8.0db without effecting quieter passages?

Using the Limiter filter, I thought Output was where one chose the level to limit the volume to its max. But when I move it down, the clip's entire audio collapses, not just the tops.

Any suggestions, tips?

Also, any opinions on using the Audio Enhancements presets, specifically, choosing Voice Enhance from the Equalization presets?

You set the audio output to -8dB then you raise the gain as much as needed.
Look at the Gain Reduction meter in the Limiter window, that will tell you how much it is lowering the peaks.
As with everything, overdoing it will lead to weird sounding audio.

Also note that as you add more gain, the noise floor (background noises etc) will also be louder.

Presets are a difficult thing as they are dependant on the source. Try them, if they sound good, use them ;)

Thanks for the reply!

I tried a compressor filter that almost immediately was where I was hoping the levels would be.

Any tips or warnings about that filter? I'll try not to make the levels too vanilla.
