Using laptops with dead batteries

My Dell Inspiron's battery is kaput. A guy said it's bad to keep using the laptop--that running 110v into it will damage it and that I should remove the battery and just use the computer straight from the house current.
 
If the battery is dead then there's no reason to have it in the laptop any way so it can't hurt to take it out. Each time a laptop battery dies I usually take it out and just power it from the AC. Got two with dead batts right now.

I can only speak from personal experience, I run laptops all the time that have dead batteries in them and never had any trouble caused by it.
