using laptop as field monitor

Charli

cool little "title"
I know some use dv rack software here and prefer their laptop to a field monitor,
my question is, does your laptop fan ever kick on when shooting? I know it's
an odd question.

yeah, it was an issue once in a very confined room, but in general, the laptop fan is not any more of a noise distraction than any of the other million things in NYC that will screw up the audio on your shoot. So it's not a huge deal, in my opinion.

this might sound crazy but you could make a foam box...well not a complete box more like what they use in recording studios to separate instruments and what not. so something U-shaped that will muffle the sound. since the laptop fan isn't that noisy you really wouldn't need real thick foam. probably could use the seat cushion stuff they sell at wal-mart and pin or glue them into a U all for under $5.

or you can buy these Primeacoustic Iso Plane Kit.

Hmmm, would anybody know the process of doing this through a powerbook? Is it as easy as plugging in the fire wire?

DV Rack only works with Windows. So you would have to have one of the new macs with the intel processor and the duel boot thing they offer. I read that it works fine.
