Using generators...

How much equipment can you run off a generator? I am just trying to plan ahead to see how many generators I might need for an outdoor shoot. I know I would run my lights on one all to them selves and whatever else could run on another generator I presume.

It depends on the size of the generator. Lights suck up a ton of power so you may have to have more than one generator for your lights.
So, if you have three 500 watt lights, you need a generator that can handle more than 1500 watts.

We know all about generators here in Iowa. We had a bad ice storm and 500 miles of power lines are down. We have generators coming in from all over to fill the demand. Bet you could get some cheap once the power comes back on. :)

generators are your friend. For KAtrina we had a 2k a 650and a 300 running off a 3500watt genny.

I finally found a local place that rents generators! Is there a particular brand or kind I should ask for? I am shooting a Music Video and need them to run lights and monitors.

get the best you can get 5000 watts is pretty good. I used it and no lights flipped just know how much you're loading... so the biggeer the better just remeber to set it far away from set and build surpressor but make it so the fumes can get out of it but it will surpress the noise. other than that bring lots of extention cords.
