Using Gel for GG on 35mm adapter

So I was trying to think of new ways to build a 35mm adapter, I think light loss is one biggest issues, and so I wondered about using a diffusion gel as the "ground glass" Get one ultra ultra thin. and then adding a vibrating motor

If someone has already tried it tell me so I don't waste my time, but I just ordered a tiny vibin' motor.

Well, iirc, a few people have used scotch tape as their gg. In fact, Zakaree says it gives a good 16mm film look. [link] So I think you should definitely try the diffusion gel and see what it looks like.

Since the GG is the equivilant of a film plane it needs to be very plano. Are you going to sandwhich it between two optical flats ? If so they should have an anti reflective coating on each surface, as each glass to air surface results in appx. 3% light loss not to mention problems with flaring.

Here's a source for inexspensive optics.

The problem I found with tape and Home Depot bags is the striations in the diffusion run vertical or horizontally, not both - so it doesn't always look good.

I can see how that would happen, but I dont think that would be an issue with diffusion gels as they are ment to diffuse evenly. I gotta get a little rosco gel booklet to do this.

i'll keep yall updated.

Hi guys,

the pdf is online.
If you dont have 2 left hands you can build your own wax-gg very easy.

Do you know how much light loss occurs becasue of the 2 pieces of glass, and becasue they are acrylic?

I posted some time ago the comparsion tests.
A 0.05mm wax gg has the same lightloss like a Nikon D screen but with better bokeh. You have to use microscopic-glass slides. Dont use acrylic-glass.
