Using FCP with 2 external HD's...Could it work?

Well, no offence, but maybe you should have read through all posts - half the discussion was about using USB on a MAC(!)...
USB on a PC is fast and fine, on a MAC it doesn´t come close to it´s intended performance...

Umm, yeah, sorry. I was unaware that USB causes so much problems on a Mac. But it has bigger potential as an interface, AFAIK.

I just got a Firmtek harddrive enclosure with 5 1TB hitachi drives connected to a MacBook Pro using eSATA. eSATA has the fastest transfer time available so that might be the way you want to go. You could get a Western Digital external 1TB HD with eSATA port for about 300 bucks...
