using dvx as deck

hey all: new here...

trying to connect dvx as deck to powerbook g4 laptop and using fcp 5.0.4 to capture dv tape. connected to camera with 4bit to 6bit firewire (ieee-1394) cable. have capture presets, etc. set to dv ntsc easy setup. fcp is not registering camera as deck at all. any thoughts?

What do you mean 4bit to 6bit FW? Do you mean from 4-pin to 6-pin? That shouldn't be a problem. Trash your FCP prefs with FCP Rescue 5, or FCP Preferences Attic (both free). See if that works. Turn on the DVX after you plug it into the Powerbook and after the PB is booted. Try a different cable. Try turning on the DVX after you plug it into the PB and before you power up the PB. Be sure you have the DVX menu settings set properly for FW output. I've captured a lot from a DVX on my PB 17" for some time now with no problems. Yep, check the cable. Even though the FW ports on PB's have no known problems, try another FW device on that port, be sure the port works. Hmmm, try these things and let us know.
