Using a Portable DVD Player for Monitoring

Does anyone know the pros/cons (or if this is even possible with the DVX) of using a portable DVD Player with like a 9" screen and A/V inputs (1/8") for external monitoring while recording live? I've been looking at getting an LCD for monitoring (from EVS or wherever) and have read all the threads here, but I just got a $200 G.C. to Best Buy and was thinking I could kill two birds with one stone by getting a portable DVD player (to show off my work  ) and also use it on shoots. I know I won't be able to mount it and the color repro won't be great, but will this even work?

Just for framing.

But think about getting an LCD screen...like the kind used for keeping the kids happy in the backseat of the car.

www.overstock.com has a bunch of different kinds...some just widescreen, some switchable. Some, even NTSC/PAL. Starting around $170.

The only problem will be the 12v power requirements. But I doubt they drain all that much juice, so you could cobble up a 12vdc battery pack pretty easily.

I have been using one I got from Best Buy for $179. It is a 7" 16/9 model. The picture is horrible and there is no way to get a good focus with it. But I bought it for monitoring while my camera is up on a jib. For that purpose, it works great.

The battery that came with it lasts more than 3 hours when just monitoring. Overall I am happy with it. Just don't expect it to look as good as a pro LCD monitor.

I have a Polaroid PDM-0722 and it works just fine. Its mini plug in/out but with RCA ends that can plug into the DVX. I'm not sure if it can unsqueeze an anamorphic image, but I get a good picture otherwise. The DVD player screen is a 7 inch and cost me $150 + 30 bucks for a 2 year anything wrong warranty at Bestbuy.
