Using a Name of an Event....

Lets say you go to a public event with your DVX100. The sponsors of the event know your there shooting it but your doing it for yourself and not them. Now you may or may not give them a copy of the final thing but let's say you plan to sell a dvd of the event on your own that you edited. Are you allowed to use the name of the event on your dvd. For example if it was called the Sweet and Low Custom Car show. Am I allowed to use the name or will I have to change the name a little? I am dealing with this now because I shot several events last summer and I plan to put out a DVD this summer but I am not sure if I am allowed to use the Actual Name of the event. If I don't use the name then people won't be quick to buy it in my opinion.

I do have an alternative plan in place if I cannot use the actual name. I would rather have the actual names of the events on the dvd.

Re: Using a Name of an Event....

Something tells me you gotta get it cleared (which is not as hard as one may think). Anyone?

Re: Using a Name of an Event....

You gotta get permission to use the show name, as its probally registered.

As well, all those pretty cars you record you need to get permission from the owners, I knew a still photographer that got in trouble when he sold a calendar of old cars without the owners permission. Sounds lame, but even if you record a verbal "can I shoot your car for my video" is better than nothing.

Re: Using a Name of an Event....

Wow I might have to bite the bullet on that one because I have 4 car shows completely edited and working on a 5th now. They all knew I was shooting their cars because I told them what I was doing and what I was doing which is produce a video of the show.

Re: Using a Name of an Event....

technically your screwed, but in reality I wouldnt worry about it, Most people are pretty cool about it, and alot of those guys will be happy that thier ride made it into a Video. If you got thier names by any chance you can phone them and ask them if they will give you permission and in return you will give them a free DVD when its done.
