Using a mixpre SD with canon XH-A1

Just curious - anyone ever use a sound devices mix-pre with a canon XH-A1 line out? I'm reading some not so great posts on DV i regarding noise and decibal output issues between the 2 devices and I was hoping to get an educated opinion (s). All I want to do is set up a shotgun and a wireless lav going line out (in) because from what I understand, you skip the camera's pre-amps if you do it this way.

thanks.

p.s. I would have put this in the canon post, but no one there really discusses using pre-amps, field mixers.

first - rewrite your post as i dont see any one use it this way ;-)
secend - mever worked withcanon but got impression the line ins are to much atunuated so you need use maximum gain ( at least on xlhd)
third - canon alwais was one of the worst for audio chain
d - try mic level ins ( pad down the mix pre for 40 db)

The A1 specs state a nominal level of over 8dBu which is bizarrely high. With my SD302, I have to crank the reference tone to +8dBu to read -12db on the A1 audio meter. That's with the camera set to manual and the gain pots set to the max. The A1 takes wonderful images but the audio design leaves a lot to be desired.
