Using a camcorder to capture

I've been using a canon optura 20 to go through my footage of several hockey games that I shot using the running timcode on my dvx, and just discovered that the camera only reads up to 07:59:59:29. I've been using a Panasonic GS19 (got it for like $250) as a deck for a while now, never encountered any timecode problems.
