Using a 2nd computer monitor for playback

I just got a new G5 and Final cut HD. I will bel buying the Cinema display next and was wondering if any of you out there are using a second computer monitor for playback? I have a beautiful 21" Trinitron I would love to use for this. Can I playback 16:9 in it's correct aspect ratio?
Supposedly I could also playback HD on it. It certinly has the resolution.
Does it display the interlaced fields correctly? What about color accuracy?
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Using a 2nd computer monitor for playback

I am no expert, so some of the others will have to give you a better technical answer. I found by using a computer monitor to playback to I was not getting an accurate portrayal of the picture. For example, I had a scene with a freeze frame that was flickering which I did not see until I played it for the first time on an actual TV monitor. Before then I was using a second monitor to playback on, and it didn't show the flicker. Maybe I was doing something wrong, but that is my take on it. So if you could, I would say have TV monitor instead of a computer monitor. Anybody else think differently?

Not a good idea. ALWAYS use an NTSC for your preview monitor, unless the only thing your audience will be viewing on will be a computer. Your colors and gamma levels will be WAY off, no matter how well calibrated your computer monitor is. Definitely not recommended--even a cheap Apex 20" TV from Circuit City would be a vast improvement over a computer monitor.
