Using 300watt photofloods on my 250w kit?

Hey guys, I bought a set of cheap smith victor 250w photofloods and saw that the "average" life of 250w GE's are 3 hours but the 300w GE's have a life of 20 hours! Is this true and is this bad to run 300's in the socket that currently run 250's? Thanks!

It should say on the light or on the socket itself what the maximum wattage is.
