i am using my friends dvx100b and dont understand how to use 24p really. so do you have to use progressive mode when shooting 24p? because i hate progeressive mode b/c everytime i move the camera the focus changes fast and i dont understand how you could use 24p if you have the camera movie or zooming in and out.

The p in 24 p stands for progressive. 24 frames progressive. That said, you can shoot interlaced footage with his camera, just be sure the dial on the back of the camera is set to 1 which is standard 60i. (29.9 fps interlaced)

Turn off the auto focus.

Yep! What they both just said.

If you are using your friends dvx to just shoot some video, use one of the SCENE FILES 1-4. Those are 60i and may give you the results that you are looking for.

Also, AUTO-FOCUS works well in 60i, DO NOT USE for 24p

Let's be clear, though . . . the scene file dial stops are whatever you want them to be. If you like the look of the default F6, in terms of gamma, color, etc., but want it to be 60i, then all you have to do is go into "Progressive Mode" and switch it to "Off." You can set any scene file any way you want.

True. Thank you for clarifying. Just thought it sounds like bobbylong is new on the camera. I was just keeping it basic. :)

yes im new to the camera but really trying to learn it. is there an auto lock button for after i get my settings straight in 24p? turning the auto focus off and moving the camera, it still gets out of focus, do yall just use an auto lock, if so how do i use it? and then wouldnt the lighting get bad as the camera moved?

In regards to focus, if you don't want to focus manually (re-adjusting every time you move the camera) then just put it on auto focus. However, like the previous posters said auto focus doesn't work well with 24p. So you have to make a choice on whether you want 24p or auto focus.

Is it that hard to auto-focus on progressive cams?

Yes, the visual information that the camera is using to focus with only get recorded 24 times a second in 24p instead of 60 for 60i, so it focuses much slower.

There's also a 'push auto' button just below the auto focus switch that engages the auto focus as long as you hold the button in.
