Ushio ColourMax LED retro fit tube bulbs for the Kino Flo Diva

Thanks Erik!

I ordered a pair of daylight's to see if they fit in older Falcon Eyes Biax fixtures as a test.

Bought complete sets of Daylight, & Tungsten, Ushio LED tubes for my two Diva 400(s). As most my gigs involve air travel I haven’t used them much, but so far I like upgrade, & as you wrote, “It’s like a whole new fixture”.

So, let me get this straight!

Good success plugging either the tungsten or daylight version into a Diva 401, no other configs needed, it’s twice the brightness, much better CRI especially in the skin-tone range, dims with the standard ballast, lasts forever, and costs like $6 more per bulb?

Is there something I’m missing? Particularly interested in the tungsten, which Erik didn’t test, as we do a lot of mix and match of, um, “classic” fixtures.

I've been using the daylight tubes for several months without issues. Probably get 4 3200K versions just in case but I rarely use tungsten. Although I used to install one or two to warm up the light if needed. I stopped using the Diva since I had other options that for the most part that worked better.
If these bulbs damaged the Diva and I doubt they would It wouldn't matter much since I basically shelved them.

Tubes showed up this morning. Wow, what a positive test!

As well as my Diva's, they work with every Biax light I have.

I'll be ordering a bunch more of these.

Now if they would make a version to fit my Kino Flo Barfly.

Best!

Dave

Makes me sad I gave away my Diva 200s to a gaffer friend last year because they were taking up room and I rarely used them!

I had been using mine loaded with 550nm green tubes to light my green screen, but packed them all up when we sold the big place last November to downsize.
I had been planning to sell them all, but it looks like they will see extended use now.

The other thing to mention here is the current draw difference.

A typical 4 lamp Diva light is pulling 220 Watts, while a 4 lamp LED is pulling 92 Watts. Saving 128 Watts.

I’ve recently learned that the Ushio tubes in the review are not compatible with the ballast of the Diva. Apperantly the tubes don’t meet the wattage of the Divas. While I’ve been using them for several months without issue I felt I needed to let you know about the potential issue.

Curious Eric ... where and how did you learn about this compatibility issue ?

I received an email from a couple people then followed up with Ushio. It’s complicated right now and don’t want to say anything else until Ushio gives me more information. As of now Ushio is saying they are not compatible due to the wattage of the bulb not meeting the Divas ballast specs.

Damn, they seem to be gone from their website and BH just sent a note saying that they don't have any now on their way........

Is there any news on these? What is the problem after all? Got 4 of these ordered on BH since february and still no news. Even bought an used Kino Diva for them...
Would love to just know if they are simply stopping to produce these so I can cancel my order and perhaps grab some in another store while in stock or if they are merely repairing their product and whatever fault they have and intend to release a second proper version of these tubes.
Some communication on Ushio's part would be nice...

Is that just for the Diva 4xx fixtures, or the 2xx ones, too?

I made this upgrade last year when they first came out but I still don't always use my Diva 401/201 lights that much as I have a Cineo Trucolor HS/Fiilex kit that I prefer for interviews... that being said, I have brought the Divas out for a couple of shoots recently for some added light. I would be very upset if those lamps ruined my Divas :/

Really appreciate you alerting us to this and hopefully we'll get answers soon!

It's official, it's discontinued. Here is the message I just received from B&H:

Would it kill people to give us more information?

Hrumph... I wonder if it is possible/worthwhile doing a ballast bypass on these. Then again, you'd also have to go through the trouble of replacing the dimmer, too. And if you can't get the lamps anymore that'd all be for nothing if a bulb went on you... aw, fudge :( I really did like the amount and quality of light from these, even if I didn't use them that often!
