Uses for ENG zoom and focus controllers ?

I'm relatively new to video - just got my first PD150, and a not usable with my PD150, a friend gave me several ENG camera manual Zoom and Focus control units: new boxed Canon MS-22M kits and other used Canon and Fujinon controllers.

Do these have much use for DSLR video work or EX-1/EX-3 or similar cameras? I plan to go that route within the next few years. I see that some of the DSLR follow focus rigs have small extension control arms, but have not seen any with tripod arm mounted controllers? I saw some people use them for the EX-3, and in the next few years would like to go with an HD camcorder with interchangeable lenses. One of my kits I have is used here with an EX-3 studio rig:

I am trying to figure out if I should sell the new kits, the old ones...or even wise to keep any of them? I definitely won't be using full size broadcast cameras as they were intended to be used, but would like to use an EX-1 or EX-3 as a studio rig with teleprompter in a year or two. Thanks for any comments. - Mo

As always, depends on what work you're doing. For the ameture, i'd say no.

This is used for a studio config. set up . When I do camera for 3-5-8 hrs it makes it much more ergonomic and comfortable to use - especially as it allows you to sit in a chair. When I do camera that goes from sticks to hand held I cant use it, which sucks because it sucks bending in awkward positions. Especially if it's a long day.

They probably are tied to a specific camera so if you don't need them now or the near future, i'd sell them. And you can't use them with a DSLR.

Thanks Tim. I see what you mean doing longer shoots. These appear to work better than a varizoom or other portable controllers? The kits I have ( http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/65912-REG/Canon_1824A052_MS22M_Zoom_and_Focus.html )
are for use with several lenses, but not sure if the controller is capable to be used with non interchangeable lenses such as with the Sony EX1? The bottom photo in this link shows one of the kits I have used with the Sony EX3 and seems like a nice studio setup (which I'd like to have the capability in a year or two...with use of a teleprompter).

Maybe, these controllers are only for interchangeable lenses? Regards, Mo

That BH link, those are the work horse of the industry - i see that gear on almost every gig. And GOOD GREIF! I had no idea how expensive they were, wow. One thing I can say for sure is that those are designed for Canon Lenses, they are brand specific.

Once we set up a 3 camera set up and couldnt figure out why it wasn't working. We put this canon set up on a fujinon lens, they don't play nice with each other. Doesn't matter with the body, just the lens.
