use FCP for slideshow?

Trying to decide if it makes sense to use FCP for a number of 2-3 minute slideshows. They'd include music, narration, pans, transitions, etc, and I'd export them to QT.

There are some specialized, generally consumer-oriented slideshow programs out there that aren't expensive, but I own FCP already.

Thoughts?

FCP will give you great results, and control. However, that comes with a cost - TIME. While I prefer to use FCP, if I need to do something quick and dirty, while still getting decent results I throw my pictures into iPhoto, and then use iMovie to do the slideshow. Not as much control over the final result, but works great when you are pressed for time. Use the Ken Burns effect in iMovie to push in/pull out on images.

I agree with the iPhoto suggestion, but have you noticed that Apple has dumbed down the export to slideshow in iPhoto5?? In iPhoto4 you could choose the QT codec, and create your own movie box size. In iPhoto5 its all "automatic." And pretty crappy if you ask me. The compression and quality is terrible. And as far as I can tell, there is no way around it. I hate when they dumb down software for ease of use. I know its consumer software, but all consumers aren't idiots. Make the default dumb, and give options to people that want them. They were there before...

I was looking at some shareware that can be used stand-alone or as an enhancement to FCP. There's one called "Still Life" at about $25 and one called "Foto Magico" at about $80 -- both seem user friendly, but FM is a bit more sophisticated.
