Use advanced pulldown or not..please HELP!!

This winter I'm going be working at a ski resort, I will be filming the the skiers and be making them a dvd at the end of the day. My question is when I import into FCP 4 should I use the advanced pulldown, I will be filming in 24p most defneitly. I tryed the advanced pulldown before and the footage came out all choppy, when I put the 24p footage into a 29.97 seqeunce it looked fine. I'm exporting to a DVD so I think I will just film in 24p and drop it into a regular 29.97 timeline and export to DVD. What do you guys think? Also I might want to film in 30p becasue I will probably to need use slow motion on some of the clips, some of the skiers might be doing jumps and stuff. I know 60i is the best way to go for slow-mo, but I'd rather keep the 24p look. Do you think I can pull it off with 30p. Maybe this should go under the FCP 4 board, i didn't know.

Thanks

Jason,

One thing, you won't get 24p look, filming in 30p. I think you're best option would be to just film in normal 60i mode.

If you do decide to shoot 24p. Use the standard F5 setting, which is 24p using the 2:3:2:3 pulldown. Which means that you get the 24p look but you can import the footage in FCP just as if it were standard 29.97 footage. You don't have to do anything special in FCP to use this footage. This is probably the best option since you are just going straight to dvd. The main reason to shoot 24p Advanced is when you want to go to film in the end.

I don't know off hand what the F5 setting footage looks like when it is slowed down. I guess i haven't ran into that yet. Although i have heard of issues with straight 24fps footage in slowmo.

Good luck.
