Looking for something cheap but that will suffice for this app. USB or firewire with composite video outputs so i can go from computer to a monitor in post.

Thanks, something like what pinnicle makes like the DVC-80 but mac or pc compatible.

Grass Valley ADVC110, ADVC300 or higher models. These were originally Canopus products before they were bought out by Grass Valley. There are many others if you google DV converters.

Your DVX will do the same thing or most Mini-DV cameras. Find one for the same price as those convertors and you have an extra deck as well as a stand alone analog convertor.

i know the camera itself will act as a converter but i heard even when on the hour meter is rolling so im trying to use the cameras for nothing more then filming i hate even using them to capture, with all that head wear... Im trying to get a miniDv deck with would also convert correct...

You'll be surprised just how much head wear those cameras can handle. They are very robust. Just the same, my recommendation for the converter was taking into consideration that not only can you input analog footage, but you can connect an external production monitor (or any monitor for that matter) to see your timeline project on an analog screen if you need to. The ADVC300 has a mini-D terminal for component output....that's what I use if I am creating a project for playback on television sets and to do some basic color correction. Since it's a bidirectional device, your footage playback is passed thru so you don't have to view proxy images on the computer screen or struggle to try to calibrate an LCD monitor for accurate color.
