Hi everyone, I'm new in this forum, so far the best tool on the web for people like me, hungry for knowledge of video production. I would like to share something that I saw this morning, I hope the price is less than $500. Does anybody know what would be the final price tag on this beauty? what do you think?

Hi,

Yes, the price is less than $500, and if you use the Coupon Code that will be posted on the blog after the manufacturer officially releases the device (very soon) then you'll get a $50 discount :)

Regards.

btw I left a post on your fb wall maybe you can answer it here.... any word on $$ also when it is in record mode and you manually adjust focus by hand, is it perfectly smooth? and one more, is the rate of focus to turn adjustable, because it seemed to be a lot of turns to get it to adjust even in minute amounts...

Cheaper than $500 and even cheaper when you use the Coupon Code :)

Sorry, I don't have Facebook (not enough time!). I don't know where you left your comment/question, but please check the article's comments at the blog, you'll probably find more answers since I included a quoted text from the manufacturer.

Cheers.

That or there was no first batch - anyone order and receive theirs yet?

There was a 1st batch indeed!! Lot of customers had their unit sent withing 48hs, so they should receive it soon (according to what I read some customers were from outside U.S., but many from the states)

Probably some reviews will show up soon, although I personally tested it for a long time and I can assure it IS GREAT.

Of course, as stated many times, is not a mechanical follow focus, so it doesn't work exactly the same way, it has advantages and limitations.

Today I've just used it exactly as follow focus mounted on a rig (no rack focus test this time) and it was great and smooth (I used Canon 24-70 2.8L USM at 50mm).

What users have to learn is HOW it works and how to configure it for the best performance, because each lens requires some adjustment. It's not a problem, but many users could get confused if they don't carefully read the instructions and technical details.

Once you understand how Canon USB implementation works and how to get the best from the USB controller, all is much easier and smoother, and you start getting the benefits (all regarding focus operations, since the rest of features doesn't need any kind of adjustment).

Cheers.

The uploaded file is the original Full HD saved by the camera, no edited in any manner.

my question is .....why hasn´t canon made this for their own product , if capabilities are already onboard ?

- That's a very good question indeed!

I suppose that Canon is not really interested on releasing products / accessories aimed for video purposes on HDSLR cameras.

Otherwise they would've already released some, or even enabled some video functions on current DSLR models via Firmware update. Just to mention few: Manual Audio Gain on 1D Mark IV and 7D, enable/disable white square on HDMI output, video compression level adjustment, some kind of focusing aids for video, etc. etc...

The list goes on.. Just check: http://5dmark2.wordpress.com/2009/12/17/canon-firmware-updates/

I really think Canon is releasing what is attractive and enough to sell, but not exploiting the full potential, at all. They started "by accident" a new trend and market segment, but they're not fully exploiting it. Pretty conservative in my opinion...

In this field, Panasonic has developed and released much more improvements in the last 2 years than Canon and Nikon together... Nikon is still amazingly slow on this.

- By the way, I've been told that the remaining Pre-Orders for the 2nd batch are few, so I suppose there will be a 3rd batch pre-order basis for March or April.

Just in case someone still doesn't know: there's a COUPON CODE to get $50 off when purchasing (it's cumulative, when buying two units using the coupon, then $100 discount is applied).
The COUPON CODE is: okii50

Cheers.
