USB, Firewire....!!!

When capturing in FCP, does it affect the quality etc..If I used a USB over a Firewire hard drive? And does it have anything to do with rendering time? I don't think so, but want some opinions. Thanks!

Quality no. Speed, dropouts, stability, etc, maybe...

The deal with USB vs FW is the sustained speeds. USB CAN hit speeds of Firewire and sometimes even more so. HOWEVER it does it in bursts... very harmful to video capturing.

Don't do it.

Also only the most recent Macs have USB2. USB1 (anything G4 (some G5's also I think) or older) is REALLY slow compared to firewire.

I'm going to echo what was said before here. Firewire is in every possible way better than USB.

Just as a note though Noiz2, Macs have had USB 2.0 since the last revision of G4 towers in 2003. Not everything has had FW800 but they've all had USB 2.0.
