USB 2 Capture Weirdness

Sad Max

Artful Dodger
So I plugged my DVX into my laptop via firewire, and my laptop into my Iomega 160Gb external HD via USB2, and captured some video from the camera to the HD using Premiere Pro 1.5...

...the capture window showed everything going fine, no dropped frames, or any other problems...

...but when I imported the captured video (located on the external HD) and put it on the timeline, it wouldn't play back...if I moved the jog wheel, or went frame-by-frame, it was fine, but just hitting the 'play' button gave only a freeze-frame in the playback window.

Seems like I can capture onto that external HD, but not play back from it.

Anybody wanna explain to me what's going on here...?

This seems a bit strange. Can you capture to the internal hard drive and playback fine? If you can, then can you copy the file out to the external drive and playback fine?

Perhaps your USB2 connection is reverting back to a High Speed USB (12 Mb/s instead of 480 Mb/s).

A little testing would seem to be the next logical step.

My external HD was weird too. Try pulling the file into the C drive. on your laptop. and see if it helps. if not, its doing what my EXT HD did, its trandsfer speed wasnt as fast as the DV was out putting. that could be a problem wih your USB2 port. supposedly its faster than a fire wire but an old driver or outdated software could be screwing with it.
