US taxes for foreigners...

I have no idea where to post this, I hope you guys can help me on this.

I am going to NYC to purchase some equipment.

My question is: is there any way not to pay taxes if I am going to get the equipment out of the States? I know in Europe, I can get a refund of all taxes paid, but I was wondering if the same applies in the US.

I know if I buy it online and ship it outside NY I don't pay taxes, but I have no place to ship it to.

Thanks in advance.

If you purchase anything where taxes are applied in a "brick and mortar", count on paying the tax. There are some "loopholes" but the seller would need to know them and accept them.

Most of the time, it is too much work for them, so they just apply the sales tax.

When I shopped in Canada, I was able to get VAT taxes reimbursed as a US resident. The US doesn't have any such rebate mechanism for tourists that I'm aware of.

If you buy from a place in the US but outside of NYC, you could have it shipped to a hotel or whatever and avoid any tax, pretty much.

Yeah, I was planning to get the Camera in BH or Adorama, that's the reason I am going all the way to NYC from Colombia. I am going to be there for only three days.

I was wondering if there is some kind of form I can get at the airport or somewhere to be Tax Exempt. Something like Dick says in Canada or in Europe.
