US Customs

So, for vacation this year the wife and I decided we wanted to go see Ireland. It just so happens that the weekend we are there, that a Formula One race is happening just around the corner (or sea) right outside of London. Being a big racing fan, I called the track and paid way too much money for weekend tickets (of which I will only get to see Sunday's race, but that package was the only way to get Sunday tickets).

Now comes the trouble. I'm currently set to leave for Ireland on the 30th (Monday) and I have not received my race tickets in the mail. When I look at the tracking number, the tickets were shipped from the UK on the 16th of this month and have been in New York's US customs office since the 17th. When I talk to the USPS they tell me there is nothing they can do about it, and to date I have not been able to find any way to contact the customs office to resolve this.

I guess what is so dumb about this whole experience is that the track insisted on using Royal Mail. They would not use UPS or FedEx, or even just email the tickets to me. I would have gladly paid more to insure their delivery. Including the race tickets, flight from Dublin, and rental car for the day in London I'm out like $1200. And if these things don't show in the next 2 days I have no idea what I'm going to do about getting to see what I paid for. I've got an email now into the track to see what can be done on their end. They have at least been prompt in their responses to date, so hopefully they have a fix.

Anyone here have any tricks up their sleeve to help me get this moving along?

Maybe contact the racetrack or whatever, and tell them that your tickets are not going to arrive in time b/c they are caught up in customs, and can they just issue your tickets at the gate???

I've emailed them and I'm hoping we can do something like that. To add to the confusion, this track is known for it's congestion. As such they have 2 park and ride lots off campus that you can use to park your car and ride the bus into the track. This was the plan, but to do that I need my parking pass. So I'm in a catch-22. Either way they have to send me something.

Royal Mail is a PITA. Expensive and Slow.

Ya know what? It is cheaper and faster to send a heavy engine intake from California all the way to Germany by USPS than having a Mattebox shipped over from London (and London is about 45 minutes away by plane).

I know, that won´t help you too much. Sorry
Frank

If you are leaving Monday than I will say you have little chance of getting these tickets. Even if it leaves customs today it won't get to you until Monday at the earliest which will likely happen the minute after you left your house. Your best hope is getting issued tickets at the track.

Off the subject here, but one of my close friends is going to be attending that race. Rumor has it, this might be the last, or one of the last, UK Formula One races...

So how about the mail carrier brought them today! YAY!

I spoke to the post office last night and the told me it was still in customs. Oh well. I got what I need. LET'S GO RACING!

Glad to see that it worked out. The mail is never predictable. One thing I learned is to never pay for two day delivery from Amazon it always arrives with two day anyway for me without me paying anything extra. Enjoy the race.
