Urgent! Please Help : Error Setting Up Transcoder

Hi all, I urgently need your help. After using Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 to transcode my video to MPEG2-DVD format & setting up all the interactive menus in Adobe Encore 1.5 & checking the project to make sure there are no errors, I pop a 4.7GB DVD-R into my dvd writer & press the "Build" button. The dialog box shows that the video is being transcoded, but after about 15 minutes of transcoding, the error message shown in the weblink below come up:

So I can't transcode the video. This is the first time I've encountered this error dialog & I tried uninstalling Encore 1.5 & re-installing it again, but the error message still appears when I try to transcode a second time.

The name of the MPEG2 file that I'm trying to transcode & burn to DVD is called "Deric&JasmineTestMPEG2Disc2.m2v" as shown in the below weblink :

Please help me as I really need to transcode & burn it to DVD for my client. Much thanks in advance.

Deselect the file with the .xmpses from the list. Only the .m2v and the .wav (or .ac3) files are needed in Encore.

Yes khmuse, I did deselect the .xmpses from the list when I imported the MPEG2-DVD file into Encore's timeline. I also checked the project in Encore to test if there was any design errors & there was none. So I proceeded to build the project, but that transcoding error message kept popping up & I can't transcode & burn the project to DVD. I think somehow the Encore software got corrupted by itself. That's why I uninstalled & reinstalled it again & tried to transcode the video again, but the same error message came up. I'm expected to deliver the completed DVD in about a day's time, so I need to find a solution to this problem quickly.

Wait, you are attempting to transcode a .m2v file? This is already in native format for inclusion in a DVD.

Did you do the MPEG transcoding within Premiere? If so, then all you need to do is transcode the .wav file (to make a Dolby Digital version from it) and place the .m2v and the .ac3 files into a new timeline.

I guess I am somewhat uncertain as to your work flow. Can you please elaborate?

ah, yes, I'm sorry I wasn't too clear. I did use Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 to transcode the edited video to MPEG2-DVD format & imported this MPEG2-DVD format into Encore DVD 1.5. Yes, you're right, in Encore the only thing that needs to be transcoded is the .wav file. Half-way while transcoding the .wav file in Encore, the error message popped up as mentioned earlier. Do you know how I can solve this problem? THanks.

This is the very first time I've encountered any transcoding problem of the .wav file in Adobe Encore, so I'm quite anxious to solve this problem as i have to deliver the completed DVD to a wedding client in about a day's time.

Over the past half-hour, I've been trying all sorts of ways to get the .wav file in Encore to transcode as the MPEG2-DVD (video) file was already transcoded in Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 & imported into Encore DVD. So the problem I realized was Encore couldn't transcode the .wav file.

Since my original project folder with all the files for transcoding this video was saved in my c: drive, I copied the entire folder & files to my d: drive (another physical harddisk on my PC). I then opened the Encore project file from the folder in the d: drive & tried to transcode again. This time, very surprisingly, the .wav file transcoded without a hitch & now the files are being burned on my DVD. I still as now, don't know why I couldn't transcode the files when they were originally on my c: drive. Any clue as to why? So I guess the problem is solved by just copying the contents from my c: to d: drive & trying to transcode again. Thanks.

Have you confirmed that the .wav file is intact? I would try importing it into a DAW (like Adobe Audition) and confirm that you have a good file.

Keep in mind that all DVD players support uncompressed PCM (.wav) so if it is just a transcode error and the file is good, you can place the .wav directly into the timeline and use it as is. The only issue is that you have to keep the combined data rate under the limit.

A 16 bit, 48 kS/s .wav file is 4 bytes per sample, 48 kS/s for a total of 192 kB/s (1.5 Mb/s). This would mean that you want to keep your video data rate to about 7 MB/s maximum.

Sounds like you are now good to go. I would suspect that you had a file name error (perhaps the extension?) as simply copying a file and moving it to a different drive wont repair it. Perhaps you were pointed to a corrupt file or a name/location that wasn't really there.

Regardless glad you are back up and running.

thanks khmuse, yep, up till now, I still don't really know what was the problem. Could be a file name error, or perhaps my WinXP Pro ed OS has been getting too bloated with all kinds of softwares installed on it. Perhaps the Windows regristry got a lil cranky, or some offending software that was interfering with Encore. At least copying all the folder & file's contents of the project to another physical drive solved the problem. Now I can deliver the finnished DVDs to my happy client on time :)
