URGENT! OK to use Anton Bauer Li-Ion Dionic batteries w/out first charging?

Hi guys,

I just received some Anton Bauer Dionic 90's and was supposed to receive the charger as well, but it didn't come. I have a shoot tomorrow that I'd really like to use these for, but the packaging on the battery says to charge the battery fully before using for the first time. Is this true, or am I safe to use the battery? Thanks!

Peter

Sure you can use it. It is not about safety, they are normally stored at 40%-50% charge, so they want you to charge it first so you will be able to use it. Also, a full charge/discharge cycle will recalibrate the fuel gauge so it's accuracy will be better. But the fuel gauge is for information only, the battery would work no matter what.

Thank you Alex! So if I understand correctly, I can use the battery tomorrow, then when my charger comes, I can just run it all the way down and charge it all the way up and that will recalibrate it? Thanks!

Peter

Actually the battery knows if it wants to be re calibrated. If it was in storage, it would probably request to be cycled once you place it on your charger. If you ignore that request, and just run it down in the camera, recalibration happens as well.
