urgent intermodulation question.

hey guys,

going onto a shoot next week and we are using a mix between the sennheiser g2 block D systems (786.000 to 822.000, transmitters at 30mw) and the lectrosonics block 29 systems (only two of these - 742.400 to 767.900, lm transmitters at 50mw).

the initial plan was to use block 27 systems, but these are in short supply.

what i need to know is whether it is possible to be using these systems in harmony without intermodulation - for instance, the sennheiser frequency management software shows me no issues if i use the lectro's on (for instance) the lower reaches of their block, and the g2's in the slightly higher reaches of their block.

to be honest, it doesnt really show any issues at all as long as reasonable separation is observed, but am i missing something here?

thanks! its pretty urgent so any help is appreciated!

It is possible there will be no issues and likely depending on how free the rf spectrum is and how many wireless you are trying to use at once. Lectrosonics sends you a little fold-out crosshatched card that shows where the issues are. I believe it is somewhere on their website too.

If you are talking about 2 w/l then you should be able to separate no problem but as you add more and depending oh where you are your options will become more and more limited. As far as using different brands, there will be no issues.

Hope that helps Tim

cool thanks a lot... thats kind of what i expected to hear actually, we'll only be using the 2 lectro 29 systems, 4 lectro 27 systems, and then probably in the region on 6 or so g2 units (the expendable ones.... thats reality for you)

in case anyone searches this:

i contacted lectrosonics, who said that this would not be a problem. the one good bit of advice that came from them was to turn on all the sennheiser sets FIRST, and then utilize the spectrum scanning ability of the 401/411 receivers to locate the holes where the lectros could happily fit in.

on top of this, i've downloaded the sennheiser SIFM software that calculates incompatible frequencies due to intermodulation - and I'll be making use of this to verify that the frequencies we wind up using on set will not interefere with each other.

so problem solved.
case closed.
