Urgent Help for Flashing weirdness Needed!!

hello,
I have tried the solutions I found here on the forums to alleviate this problem, but it is not gone. I hope someone can help. I am using premiere pro 2.0 and the DVX100b. I shot in 24p mode, as I did with all my other projects with no problems. Now this is happening (Watch the edges of the stuff in the background flash). The red puzzle mat.

I tried the broadcast filter and everything....HELP!!! AAARRRGGG!!!!

I just made "Stricken" on this camera with no problems.:crybaby:

This is interesting. At first I just assumed that it was a result of choosing colors that are nearly pure, fairly high in level and typical of what you might expect from undersampled color. To confirm I desaturated the clip to monochrome and noticed that the "flicker" frequency is constant and shows up in the "dummy" as well. This disproved the first idea as this portion of the frame is not a pure color. Now I am suspecting that you in fact had a source (illumination source) that was exhibiting a flicker effect with the shutter speed that you choose.

Can you describe both the lighting and power used to drive the lighting as well as the shutter speed used to shoot this scene?

The raw footage on my harddrive has no flicker and if I keep this 24p file in a 60i timeline, there is no flicker. It is when I attempt to have it in a 24p timeline that the flicker appears. I used a 1/50 shutter speed, lit with three Britek 1000 watt Halogens off of wall outlet power.

OK, this new information eliminates it being caused by a "problem" light source.

What is a bit confusing is your statement that the "raw footage" has no "flicker". How was the file acquired and how are you assessing the raw footage's lack of "flicker"?

Have you exported the clip as an uncompressed .avi and looked for the "flicker"?

I imported the file from the camera into Premiere Pro 2 into a 60i project. it brings it in as a AVI. I double clikced on this AVI on my hard drive and there is no flicker. When I pull it into a 24p project then all of the sudden there is flicker. The flicker occured as well when I downloaded the 24p footage into a 24p project. :-(

i, too, have has this problem! it's quite agonizing however i found recapturing the footage to solve the problem. but what a pain it is to capture an hour of footage over again... ESPECIALLY when youre in EDITING MODE!!!!

It has done it with 4 tapes i just captured. It is awesome that you were able to be free of the flashing :-) , but the flashing I have is not fixed by this. :-(

I really doubt that recapturing the footage is going to accomplish anything.

Since the problem doesn't occur when you work in an interlaced time line and only in a progressive one, the solution is likely going to be a chroma blur to solve the problem. It is simply that you have saturated primary colors and these are going to exhibit this problem more than any other situation.

I will take a stab at the footage later today and if I can solve it, I will post the "fix" for you to try.

OK, I have a "fix".

Apply the following video effect to your clip:

Channel Blur

Settings -

Red Blurriness: 1 - 5 (set as you like, higher will eliminate the "flicker" but will effect other aspects of the image)

Blur Dimensions: Horizontal

This should fix the problem, but it would be better to avoid these types of large, stationary, primary and highly saturated colors in future shooting.
