I need to export a freeze frame from final cut pro as a picture file to use in my DVD Studio menu. I searched the forums and cannot find out how- and I'm running out of time. Please help. Thanks.

File > Export > Using Quicktime Conversion, then in the dialog that appears at the bottom left change the Format to Still Image, under Use, select the file type (JPG, etc.). Give and save where you want it.

set an in and an out (to be safe) on the frame you want. then go to EXPORT > QUICKTIME CONVERSION > STILL IMAGE

then bring that into photoshop and make it 720x480 with a pixel aspect ratio appropriate for your project. probably will be NTSC DV WIDESCREEN (1.2).

You can also pull up the frame you want and press SHIFT+APPLE+4 which will give you crosshairs to box in the screenshot you want. It usually gets placed right on the desktop as a PNG file. SHIFT+APPLE+3 gives you a full screenshot usually, if you have any need for that.
